Oaxaca is one of those privileged cities with a climate often referred to as "Eternal Spring". Located on México's high central plateau surrounded by large mountains, and an altitude of 5000 feet, the city enjoys a mild climate all year round. In winter and spring the evenings get cool enough for a jacket or a shawl, while during the day the mild heat can easily be avoided with a hat. This is the dry season and showers tend to begin at the end of May. The hottest and driest months are March and April. In the summer, the temperature can get hot if you walk in the sun but fortunately the afternoon and evening showers come as a blessing. These may last a couple of hours and are usually followed by perfect rainbows and clear skies (from June to September).
